Binyon, Laurence. ASIATIC ART IN THE BRITISH MUSEUM (Sculpture and
Painting). Paris; G. van Oest: 1925. One of the more remarkable museum
catalogs ever written, made so by the extremely frank introduction by
Laurence Binyon, Curator of Oriental Prints and Paintings at the British
Museum, who describes in great detail the deficiencies of the collection
and the reasons for them. Gaps certainly existed at the time, but this
catalog illustrates and describes a fine selection of paintings from
China, Japan, Persia and India, and sculpture from China and India.
Hardcover. 11"x14", 74 pages of text plus 64 b&w plates; light soil.
[19631] $150.00

Burlington Fine Arts Club. EXHIBITION OF EARLY CHINESE POTTERY AND
PORCELAIN -1910. London; Burlington Fine Arts Club:1911. A sumptuous
catalog, with examples from the Bushell, Eumorfopoulos, Hobson, Morgan,
Read, and many other collections. This copy evidently belonged to
Burlington Club member and exhibition contributor William C. Alexander,
and comes with several typed lists of ceramics and a letter from Cecil
Smith of the V&A thanking him for his loans to an exhibition at the V&A in
1913. There is also a pair of photographs identified as from the MFA,
Boston, picturing a flat bowl, and, most interestingly, 3 pages of very
good sketches of Oriental ceramics, one in pen featuring "Twelve examples
lent 2 Victoria Albert Jany 25 1912 -Bernard Rackham." These are sketched
quickly but skillfully -whether Rackham actually made these sketches is
open to question, as no comparable sketches are at hand. The other two
sheets feature more carefully done pencil drawings with notes on the
pieces. Hardcover. 13"x16", xli + 97 pages, plus 16 colored and 42 b&w
plates with tissue guards; covers with some wear, bumped tips, lightly
shaken, etc; light spotting on the endpapers and a bit of soil here and
there, but a nice copy. [22480] $450.00

Getz, John. AN ILLUSTRATED AND DESCRIPTIVE CATALOGUE OF RARE OLD PERSIAN
POTTERY with historical and other notes pertaining to a private collection
acquired by Messrs. H.O. Watson & Co. New York; H.O. Watson & Co.:1908. A
fine collection of rare old Persian pottery, assembled by an Italian
collector toward the end of the 19th century. In addition to the catalog
there are informative notes on Persian pottery and its' decoration by John
Getz. Hardcover. 8"x10", 81 pages, 4 color and 4 b&w plates with tissue
guards; a fine copy. [13812] $125.00

Hobson, R.L. & Edward S. Morse. CHINESE, COREAN AND JAPANESE POTTERIES.
New York; The Japan Society:1914. Edition limited to 1500 copies. An
elegant catalog of a major Japan Society loan exhibition at the Knoedler
Galleries. The texts by Hobson and Morse are well worth reading even
today, and the illustrations are very beautiful. Printed on laid-style,
deckle-edged paper, a pleasure to use and peruse. Hardcover. 10"x13",129
pages. [19645] $150.00
