Tehuantepec" drawn by Charles C. Smith and 
lithographed by Saroney and Major (27 x 43") is 
in very good condition with a few very short 
splits to folds. Chart of "The boca-Barra' (26 x 
40") by Endicott Lithographers has a long 10" 
split at one fold and a few short tears to folds. 
2 volumes. Inscribed by Peter A. Hargous, one of 
the principals. Large 8vo, 23 cm. [295 pgs] The 
Isthmus of Tehuantepec: being the results of a 
survey for a railroad to connect the Atlantic and 
Pacific oceans, made by the scientific commission 
under the direction of Major J.G. Barnard, U.S. 
engineers. With a résumé of the geology, climate, 
local geography; productive industry, fauna and 
flora, of that region ... Arranged and prepared 
for the Tehauntepec railroad company of New 
Orleans, by J.J Williams, principal assistant 
engineer.

Errata slip tipped-in. Text volume complete with 
all plates and map. Original black cloth with 
some minor repair and a few chips to spine cloth 
in text volume. Atlas volume's original blue-gray 
cloth binding is intact but shaken and lacks 6 of 
the maps called for. It's unusual to find the 
atlas volume at all. Some scattered foxing, 
mainly to first several pages. Some light 
offsetting to pages facing plates. Binding is 
starting in the middle of book., where folding 
map was placed by the publisher. Sabin 3480.
