We recently purchased a box of travel and exploration titles, not all of
which were in perfect shape. Two items in the box are of little interest
to us, both because of the subject matter, and the condition, and we
thought to offer them on this list at a steep discount from the prices
usually encountered on the book-selling internet sites. Terms of Sale at
end.
1) DELLENBAUGH, Frederick S., /A CANYON VOYAGE The Narrative of the
Second Powell Expedition down the Green-Colorado River from Wyoming, and
the Explorations on Land, in the Years 1871 and 1872./ G. P. Putnam's
Sons, New York, 1908, 8vo, pp. xx, 277, ads [vi]. With 50 illustrations:
some colour, some photographic, and some line drawings, and four folding
maps (all in excellent condition). This is an ex-library copy, with
accession number to spine amd usual markings to endpapers. There is an
oval library stamp on the title page, but otherwise the contents are
clean, tight and bright. The decorated boards are rubbed at the
extremities and show some wear and soiling. The hinges and joints are
tight. Overall, in good plus condition. This title has been reprinted a
number of times, but is rather scarce in this, the first edition.
2) DELLENBAUGH, Frederick S., /THE ROMANCE OF THE COLORADO RIVER The
Story of its Discovery in 1540, with an Account of the Later
Explorations, and with Special Reference to the Voyages of Powell
through the Line of the Great Canyon/. G. P. Putnam's Sons, New York,
1904, 8vo, pp. xxxv, 399, ads [iv]. With many black-and-white photos and
illustrations, and a coloured frontispiece. This also is an ex-library
copy, with similar markings to the previous title. However, the front
hinge is cracked, and has been crudely repaired with tape. The boards
show greater wear and soiling. The contents are clean, save for the
occasional careless finger smudge to a margin. Overall, this is best
judged as a decent reading copy. This title was first published in
November, 1902. This is the second edition, published September, 1904.
The price for the pair: $125.00
TERMS OF SALE - The price is net in U.S. funds. Payment by check or
