Ernest Hemingway. THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA. New York: Charles Scribner's 
Sons. 1952. 1st edition. 1st printing, dated 1952 on the title page, 
Scribner's seal and the initial "A" on copyright page. Octavo, original 
cloth. Name in ink neatly penned on front free endpaper "Kennedy, 1952". 
Original price of $3.00 in pencil (erasable) at upper corner of front 
endpaper. A fine, unread copy in the original colour pictorial dust 
wrapper with the $3.00 price on the front flap intact. The dust wrapper 
has some light browning, at the extremities and on the verso along the 
spine panel, and has a tiny tear at the base of the spine panel at the 
rear fold; also, and more noticeably, there is slight fraying at the 
spine head with a tiny chip, about 1/16th of an inch, missing. Of two 
noted variants, this is the one with the blue tint to the author's 
photograph on the rear panel.

A very nice copy of the first edition of this classic. This copy has 
been in storage, boxed, since the mid 1970's, and has just been unpacked 
out of the nearly 20,000 volumes of books from the estate of one of our 
best and oldest customers.
