CURTIS'S  BOTANICAL MAGAZINE.... Volumes 1 - 8.  London:
         W. Curtis  1792-1794. First Edition. Octavo (5-3/4" x 9-1/4")
         bound in  original  tree calf with contrasting morocco  spine
         labels.  The  first  eight volumes, bound in  four,  of  this
         popular  and important botanical magazine, the first and  the
         greatest  of many horticultural periodicals. Illustrated with
         286 (of  288)  stunning hand-colored botanical  plates,  with
         plate 120  uncolored  and  lacking only plate  69,  the  Moss
         Rose. The coloring is vivid and the paper, for the most part,
         is clean    and  bright.  Contemporary   bookplate   of   the
         Honorable  Thomas  Knox in each volume with his signature  on
         four of  the  title  pages. Spines are a bit dry,  with  some
         rubbing  and  splitting  to the joints, but  all  covers  are
         tight,  clean, and sound. Two spine labels on one volume  are
         chipped.  Bindings  Very  Good;   plates  clean  and  bright.
