potter and Orientalist, Bernard Leach. Terms of Sale at end.

slightly scuffed and soiled; else vg slipcase. Published  by Jupiter 
Books, London. 1973. Illustrated by the author's sketches, etchings and 
drawings. 8vo, pp. 111. "This
specially bound edition .. is limited to 500 copies signed by the 
author. This is no. 477."

Bernard Howell Leach (1887-1979) studied at the Slade School under Henry 
Tonks and Frank Brangwyn. In 1908, he travelled to Japan and exhibited 
his etchings. He later studied pottery and returned to England in 1920 
with his friend and fellow potter, Shoji Hamada. He established himself 
at St. Ives, in Cornwall, where he taught pottery, and wrote a number of
successful books on the subject. Two films have been produced of Leach's 
work: "A Potter's World" (BBC, 1960) and a 1974 Japanese film. This 
limited edition copy is signed by the author/artist on the special 
numbered publisher's bookplate, which is affixed to the front pastedown 
of the book.
