Folio. ff.(18),154. Woodcut device on title and final verso. Index. Title page a
bit soiled. Both works bound together in cont. roll-tooled paneled pigskin,
with both fore-edge clasps (one brass catch missing). Bottom of spine a bit
chipped. $12,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
I. First edition of an important collection of surgical texts, with
contributions by about 150 authors, including Conrad Gessner, Galen, Oribasius,
Heliodorus, Jean Tagault, etc. An important work for the illustrations regarding
field surgery, bandaging, anatomical and skeletal cuts after Vesalius, etc., etc.

II. The first edition of this rare and important 16th century pharmaceutical
text. The author is sometimes listed under “Cronenburg, Bernard Dessenius van.”
Dessen (1510-1574) was a physician in Cologne, and wrote on a number of
medical subjects including the plague. See Durling 1120. BL German STC p. 229. Not
in Wellcome.
