The Book Elves have been enjoying a few days of Summer-like weather here
in Gnu-England, which is very appropriate since they are finishing the
Summer Catalog, which goes to the printer tomorrow.

But if there's one thing that can distract the Book Elves from their
cataloging work (other, of course, than the cute Elfettes three caves
down, or the return of Nomar Garciaparra to the Red Sox lineup) it's a
Good Story, and they found a Good Story in the Diamond Necklace Affair.

If you subscribed to Joslin Hall Rare Books Newsletter then on Tuesday you
saw that we have several interesting pieces regarding the infamous "Affair
of the Diamond Necklace", the scandal that helped bring about Marie
Antoinette's downfall and the French Revolution. The Book Elves have been
busy writing up an account of this affair and putting together a page
devoted to it, complete with pictures of many of the leading characters,
and a link to another page offering books on the subject-

Alas, there is no picture of Hilary Swank as the Countess de la Motte, but
the Book Elves do report that they enjoyed the movie very much.

That's all for today. Have a look at "The Affair of the Diamond Necklace”
when you have a moment, and have fun!
