A Very Good copy, 5 15/16 x 3 7/8 inches (a)2 A-O8, P2. George Saintsbury (1896, p.48) called Lyrical Ballads "...the clarion-call of the new poetry...the greatest work in verse...that had been done for 200 years." This is the ripe kernel of English Romanticism, especially the "live simply, think deeply" manifestation. "Here the adversarial stance of the true writer...was established...(he) assert(s) that there is a tendency in the culture of the time which it is the duty of poetry to counteract and which possibly only poetry can counteract" (Gill, William Wordsworth, 1989). For the set. $9500
