Black & white diagrams, 3 fold-out maps. Very good.
      Jomini was a controversial Swiss-French general, historian, and
military theorist whose work rivaled that of Clausewitz in influence.
Jomini's ideas centered around the simplification of strategy and massing
force against the enemy's "decisive point" in order to win a quick and
unambiguous victory. The present work was the principal strategy text
studied at West Point in the period leading up to the Civil War, and is
therefore essential for understanding that conflict. This copy has been
expertly rebacked, retaining the original cloth on the boards and original
endpapers. A shallow brown stain to fore edges of first several leaves.
Title page bears a contemporary ownership signature from a member of Battery
E, Third New York Volunteer Army at New Bern, North Carolina. Minor edge
rubs and chips, a few shallow bumps. Nicely restored.    $250.00
