1.  BIGLAND, Ralph.  Observations on Marriages, Baptisms, and
Burials, As Preserved in Parochial Registers. With Sundry Specimens
of the Entries of Marriages, Baptisms &c in foreign Countries
[etc.].  Printed by W. Richardson and S. Clark [etc.], London,
1764.  Modern tan cloth, gilt, showing wear, some foxing, title
possibly a cancel, ex-library; a sound, well-margined copy, with

A wide-ranging work, appearing over a decade before Bigland's
appointment as head of the College of Arms, treating of the history
of recording births, marriages, and deaths both in England and
elsewhere, with many examples and proposed reforms.

2.  CARPENTER, William.  Chancery Reform. The Equity Jurisdiction
of the Court of Chancery; A Lecture. Delivered in the Theatre of
the London Mechanics' Institute, Southampton Buildings, Chancery
Lane, by Desire of the Council of the Chancery Reform Association. Effingham

An uncommon lecture graphically depicting the horrific delays and
expense in Chancery, delivered under the auspices of the

Cruise's monumental effort successfully extending the method of
Charles Fearne's 'Essay on Contingent Remainders' to all of real
property, combining abstract principles with decided cases; this
edition adds his Preliminary Dissertation on Tenures.

Several of Hoadley's early sermons, including that upon St. Paul's
teaching, propounding that the people need only obey rulers who
govern for their good, this edition appearing as Hoadley was raised
"to the highest point in the [Whigs'] estimation".
