BUCHAN, John. /SIR WALTER SCOTT/. Coward-McCann Inc., New York City.
1932. 1st edition, hb blue cloth. royal 8vo, pp. 384, with a
frontispiece of Scott (from a sketch by Sir Edwin Landseer). The bottom
right corner of the front board is bumped; else the book is in near fine
(appears unread) condition. The dust jacket is noticeably chipped at the
edges, with some small open tears at the folds and the head and tail of
the spine. There is some quite light general soiling, but otherwise the
jacket is in good, presentable condition. SIGNED by Buchan in ink on the
title page.

John Buchan (1875-1940), first Baron Tweedsmuir, was a noted author and
a Governor-General of Canada (1935-1940), best known, perhaps, for his
thrillers (if one may employ so inelegant a term about such an exalted
official) /The Thirty-Nine Steps/ and /Greenmantle/. One occasionally
sees copies of Buchan's books with tipped-in signatures (probably taken
from some official correspondence), but signed copies of his books are
quite scarce.
